Good Governance & Democracy

PIMD is promoting good governance and democratic practices across Africa. With a mission to enhance local governance and empower communities, PIMD provides crucial support to municipal leaders and institutions throughout the continent. At the core of our work is developing and implementing robust governance frameworks that foster transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement. Under this banner, our programs include the Good Governance Practice Program (GGPP), Good Governance Executive Leadership (GGEL), and Gov-HERnment

Strategic Impact Leadership

This leadership development program targets municipal and senior African leaders to enhance their knowledge and skills. The Strategic Impact Leadership program is a peer learning experience that utilizes, among others, case studies simulation exercises to address Leadership Challenges, Government Effectiveness, Responsiveness and Service Delivery, Budgetary Process & Transparent Financial Management, Digital Transformation, Monitoring and Evaluation of Government, and Citizen-Centered Approaches.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

PIMD recognizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion of women, ethnic minorities, and underserved communities in programs, services, and the decision-making process in local governments. Our DEI program includes capacity building and technical assistance in developing an effective Gender and Ethnic Inclusion Policy, Civil Society and Citizen Engagement, and Participatory Democracy.

Capacity Building & Technical Assistance

Our capacity-building and technical assistance services focus on supporting local governments to improve overall municipal service delivery,including Decentralization, Performance management, Organizational Management, Culture of Innovation, and Administrative Process Improvement.

Practicum & Policy Research

This program combines theoretical and practical approaches to high-caliber practicum & policy research led by the participants to identify tangible solutions to local challenges, including gaps in service delivery, digital gaps for women and ethnic minorities, leadership challenges, and lack of accountability and transparency. Combined with our peer learning methodologies, this activity places program participants at the center of the needs assessment process. It empowers them to identify locally led and context-specific solutions to address challenges.

Consulting Services

PIMD provides a wide range of services to help local and municipal organizations in African countries develop effective engagement approaches with communities, international organizations, and neighboring countries. These include advisory services on decentralization, human resources and performance management, organizational development, municipal planning, technology services, and international relations.

Good Governance Practice Program (GGPP)

GGPP strengthens local governments with practical, hands-on capacity-building programs to foster empowered and responsible citizenry; promotes good governance practices and democratic principles; and enables more responsive, accountable, and inclusive governance systems by increasing efficiency and accountability.

Good Governance Executive Leadership (GGEL)

GGEL proudly invites senior government officials from African nations to the United States for an immersive 10-day leadership development program. This high-caliber training offers a unique opportunity for peer-to-peer learning and exchanges focused on best practices in leadership and local government management. Our program includes hands-on practicum and simulation exercises designed to address critical aspects of leadership, governance, and local organizations.

Gov-HERnment

Gov-HERnment aims to advance gender equity within local government by bridging the leadership and opportunity gap for women in the public sector. We achieve this through a comprehensive approach that includes capacity building, leadership development, advocacy, policy, and training. Our program is designed for aspiring women leaders from diverse backgrounds, including the private sector, civil society, and local and national organizations, who are passionate about municipal leadership.
